Domestic Terminals - Works Have Begun

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Temporary Pick-up and Drop-off area at the Domestic Terminals

A temporary Pick up & Drop off area at the Domestic Terminals is now in operation until early 2010 to enable us to construct new facilities.

This means the next time you visit the Domestic Terminals the road layout will almost certainly be different to what you may be familiar with. The pick up and drop off and taxi queuing areas, previously directly in front of the terminals, have been temporarily re-located.

While the temporary pick-up and drop-off area is operating, all traffic will be re-directed along the front of the terminals and drivers should observe directional signage and instructions from our traffic management team.

While construction is underway drivers may experience some delays upon entering the front of the terminals. We recommend travellers allow additional travel time for their safe journey to and from the airport and we thank you for your patience while these works are underway.

Overview of the Works at the Front of the Domestic Terminals

Works have commenced at the front of the Domestic Terminals at Perth Airport. These woorks will see the major redevelopment of the forecourt, walkways and roads at the Domestic Terminals.  This will include creating dedicated lanes for three traffic types – taxis, buses and small charter vehicles – as well as a passenger pick-up and drop-off point.

The footpath will be widened in front of the terminals; the current taxi boarding area will be re-configured ; and new undercover walkways will also be constructed.  Improvements are designed to alleviate traffic flow in front of the terminals during peak times, allowing for quicker access to and from the Domestic Terminals.

During the construction phase there will be a level of disruption around the Domestic Terminals.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and recommend travellers allow additional time for their safe journey to and from the airport, parking their vehicle, checking in and proceeding through security.

Completion of the upgrade is expected in early 2010.

The upgrade will ensure Terminals 2 and 3 operate efficiently while we move towards a consolidated airport at the international precinct.

Changes to Fauntleroy Avenue Access

As part of the ongoing upgrade at Perth Airport, vehicles are no longer able to turn left from Brearley Avenue into Fauntleroy Avenue. Vehicles will also no longer be permitted to turn left from Fauntleroy Avenue toward the front of the Domestic Terminals, with Fauntleroy Avenue effectively becoming a no-through road. These road changes are permanent.

Taxis and buses are permitted to access the front of the Domestic Terminals from Fauntleroy Avenue to collect passengers. Vehicles may continue to access the front of the Domestic Terminals from Brearley Avenue.

The change in access to Fauntleroy Avenue forms part of our program to improve access to the Domestic Terminals.

New Dedicated Taxi Lane

The new permanent dedicated taxi lane at the Domestic Terminals commences operation on Thursday 17 December 2009. This is a dedicated taxi lane for passenger pick-up only.

Taxis drivers picking-up passengers may only access the front of the Domestic Terminals from Fauntleroy Avenue.

Taxi drivers will continue to drop-off passengers in the temporary public drop-off lane from Brearley Avenue.

Key features:

• There are eight taxi bays which are larger than standard bays to facilitate easy passenger loading. Passengers will be directed to bays as they become available.

• Passenger loading will be continuous on all bays. Two new lanes allow drivers to exit the taxi rank as soon as passengers are loaded and ready to depart.

• A Taxi Marshal will be on duty to direct taxis to vacant bays. Each of the eight taxi bays will be clearly numbered on the road surface and by pavement markers.

• Passengers with special needs, in groups or with large loads will be directed to Taxi Bay 1. Maxi-taxis entering the rank will be directed to Bay 1 by the Taxi Marshal.

Wider Pedestrian Footpath

Once the new permanent dedicated taxi lane is in operation you will notice that the hoarding which is currently along the front of the Domestic Terminal will be relocated one lane away, toward the Short Term car park. The relocation of the hoarding enables passengers to access the new 5 meter wide pedestrian footpath which is located at the front of the Qantas Terminal. This wider pedestrian footpath will allow more room when passengers are moving along the forecourt.  The hoarding will be moved to allow works to continue.
