RUNWAY OVERLAY

Perth Airport is pleased to advise that phase one of the major maintenance works to the main runway is now complete.  The works were completed on schedule and delivered with the least amount of impanct on travellers and local residents.

All aircraft landings and take offs have now resumed their usual patterns.

While the majority of the runway maintenance works are complete, a second phase is required in the coming months to finish the project.  Surface grooving will take place once the new bitumen surface has 'cured', which involves cutting grooves to allow rain water to drain away from the runway.

We will communicate this component of the works in the coming months, once details are finalised.  Minimising the impact to the community will be a priority.

Every 15-20 years, Perth Airport must undertake major maintenance works to our runways to ensure the ongoing safe and reliable operation for aircraft landings and take-offs. 

From 1 February 2010, for approximately nine weeks, the main runway will be closed from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 7am-7pm while works take place.  During this time, all air traffic will be redirected to the cross runway which means residents in suburbs close to the approach and departure of the cross runway will notice an increased number of flights.
